Just a small update with my latest Batman miniature...the Riddler:
I never had a burning desire to own this model, despite it being quite nice, because I had already done one of the better Heroclix sculpts for the Riddler, and I didn't have any pressing desire to use him in a tournament game (for which you need official models).
However, two things changed this. Firstly, I got an Amazon voucher for my birthday and this was one of the cheaper models available there, allowing me to get two. Secondly, the new Flash and Arrow book contained rules for teams, one of which was the Suicide Squad, and the Riddler is a potential member.
The model itself is really characterful, but, given it's such a simple model, I can't for the life of me understand why Knight Models sculpted it in three parts. Honestly, their sculpting decisions are a mystery at times...
...which, I suppose, is appropriate for the Riddler.
Excellent work Kieron, Mr. Nygma turned out very well.:)
ReplyDeleteAs for the 3 parts: totally agreed that is in explicable, except to KM....
The thing is, I can see the arm and cane being separate as it allows a degree of flexibility in posing. The hand and head is just odd, as it has to be posed like that - why on Earth not make it a single piece.
DeleteLovely job Sir. I thought that I had picked this up to add to my Penguin crew, but for the life of me, I can't seem to find it - must be having a senior moment. A bit of a worry as it does't seem to be available anymore.
ReplyDeleteIt's one of a few models that went to direct sales only, I think because it confuses people buying the Riddler Crew, which changes the game rules.
DeleteThere should be some floating about somewhere online.
Excuse my ignorance Kieron, but what does direct sales mean. I've read it before in relation to some of their other models and have been meaning to ask. Spurred on by your comment, I managed to track a Riddler down for myself, which will probably mean that the one I thought I'd bought will now turn up!
DeleteIt means you can only now get it from their website (obviously apart from some that are left over stock). They pulled a few models back to direct sales only due to undisclosed reasons - likely poor sales for models like Copperhead, and confusion with other releases for Riddler and one of the Scarecrows. Basically, they're free agents that can't work in their own crews. Originally Scarecrow and Riddler didn't have their own crews, and these free agents were early releases.
DeleteOther stuff like the Spiderman game, resin models like the Batmobile and their bigger MDF stuff (Arkham Asylum) are also only available direct.
Hope that helps.
Thank you Kieron, that makes perfect sense now, although I have just seen their Arkham Asylum - wow!
DeleteSuperb job dude he looks great. I haven't faced him yet he looks like he can be a nuisance!
ReplyDeleteI've only run up against him once, and he wasn't too much of a bother. However, messing about with turn counters might be something the Suicide Squad really benefit from. Also, I don't think he'd feel wasted sat on an objective.
