A Growing Collection

Progress has slowed a little on the Batlog as we've been out and about enjoying being not at work. However, I've still managed to get a few models done.

And so, I present my Poison Ivy gang...

I've kept thing pretty simple with these models, just using a very limited palette with washes and dry brushing.

The casting of the plants is a bit rough and ready, and I haven't spent as much time as I should cleaning them up, however, as plants, a bit of unevenness isn't too much of a problem.

Ivy herself caused me a few headaches as I was going to keep her legs bare, but I couldn't seem to stop her legs from looking grubby and so I changed tack and went for a look similar to the 1990's animated series.

Additionally, her right eye was a bit off and so I had to keep going back to it and I'm still not convinced her face is right. I also want to add some foliage to the base. On the plus side though, this particular model is unlikely to see a lot of table time, simply because the Arkham version I've had for a year is so much more scary, and makes better use of the plants.

I'm glad to have got these done though, and I'm happy enough with them. I suspect I may need to buy a Classic Harley Quinn to allow me to properly do a do a 'Gotham Girls' crew.

In other news, I've burned a couple of my 6MMRPC jokers recently. Firstly, I've begun to expand my Dropzone Commander army by buying a command unit for my Resistance army. I want the standard M3 Alexander tank, but my FLGS didn't have any in stock so instead I went for this:

It's actually a special character model, but it's technically the same tank as I wanted, but pimped up a bit. In game I'll use it as a standard Alexander, but for a few pence more, I got the command cards to allow me to use the special character should I want to at any point.

The second joker I burned was on these:

They're actually for my daughter. North Star Miniatures have these listed as 'Young Fire Elementalists', but with a different paint job, and a switch from fire to ice, they seem to be a pretty good, totally accidental, representation of these two:

What an amazing coincidence...

  1. Great work on both the Poison Ivy gang and your not Frozen sisters :-) I actually prefer this version of Ivy and think you've done a top job capturing the look and feel of her animated series counterpart.

    1. Thanks. Having already done her legs meant that when I did the green, there's a hint of the flesh underneath it, giving a good impression of tights.

Just to be clear, I didn't paint the Wizards; those images are from the North Star website. I've currently got as far as undercoating. :)

    2. Ah... well they look good anyway, though yours will doubtless be better. Are you going for a more 'Frozen' colour scheme then :-)

      ...sorry. :)

  2. I love these Kieron and have her prepped and ready to go myself. That said I think I might now add the Riddler as a free agent to the Penguin crew.

    1. Thanks. the Riddler is a very classy looking model, it'll be great to see what you do with him. Mind you, ivy and the plants offer loads of potential for creative basing.

  3. I recently started re-watching the 80's batman series. It's actually pretty solid. Very cool looking poison ivy gang. Who makes them?

A good choice with the green leggings, the models have a very tight looking colouration theme. Obviously they belong to each other.

    1. There made by Knight Models. They do a whole Batman range and a skirmish game.

I've found that my habit of using a smaller range of colours than most folks work really well for comic book miniatures.

  4. I think you did a great job on the poison Ivy gang.
The limited palette really binds them together as a team.
The elementalist miniatures look like a lot of fun to paint. No doubt your daughter will be super-pleased receiving these, painted as characters she probably likes.

    1. I was planning to get them for her birthday, but the sneaky blighters at my FLGS pointed them out to her when I took her in. There was no leaving without them...

  7. Frozen... no. Please. No. That film has played in our house approximately 572,000 times. Just... just let it go.

Argh! You see what you've done to me?!

  10. I'm with Spiderweb in this one... I think I need to stop reading...

So because I'm now hooked on BMG... How do the Marvel models fit into it? Can they be used in seperate gangs/free agents?

    1. Thanks. Currently, there are no rules for the Marvel minis, but they are in scale with the Batman stuff. There have been rumours of a more 'super' set of rules at some point, but nothing in the foreseeable.

However, some folk have come up with their own stats for Marvel characters, or you could use 'counts as' with some (Nightwing as Daredevil), or use a different set of rules like Power Legions or Supersystem.

    2. Awesome, thank you. I do really like them, and honestly I'd probably go Watchmen anyway, but the Marvel stuff is really nice looking, it would be hard to resist! Is base size a big thing in the game? Or could they be in slightly larger bases?

    3. The base since is meant to be 30mm round lipped, as the model's volume (which is how LoS is worked out) is based on this. But as long as your opponent is reasonable it shouldn't be a problem.

  11. Getting limited palettes to work is tough. Nice job!

  12. I think your paint work on Ivy looks great. She is on my list too, I admit quite low due to the lack of a plant or henchman booster pack. I don't know if my hobby skills are up to the task of making my own.

    1. Thanks for the kind words.

I initially made my own plants using bits from artificial flowers. Have a look back on the blog and you'll see them. They're fairly easy to do.
